OFFICIAL I.V. SAFETY CUFF VIDEO
The I.V. Safety Cuff is designed to be remarkably simple. This hygienic, single-use disposable, ambidextrous, one size fits all (small children through very large adults), 100% biodegradable product wraps around the forearm of any grateful patient and creates a 4" wide breathing "platform" around the proximal part of the wrist.
After securing the platform, the I.V. line(s) can be stabilized by applying tape over the line adhering it to the platform - without any concern of damaging the epidermis and/or experiencing the well known painful side effects of applying tape directly to a patients fragile or sensitive skin.
The I.V. Safety Cuff should be used on every single patient, every single time an I.V. is placed on the arm or hand.
A practical, low cost, field tested answer to a hugely ignored, under-reported and costly problem.
Totally eliminates painful removal of tape due to Skin Tears and/or Hair Loss. This is especially true with concern to elderly and diabetic patients, although it effects everyone.
Totally eliminates Allergic Tape Reactions or Sensitivities.
Totally eliminates a potential source of entry through skin tears by various Skin Borne Pathogens like MRSA.
Allows skin to breath under the platform reducing potential for surface deterioration.
Stable yet flexible platform for I.V. tubing - allowing for greater range of motion, peace of mind and comfort of the forearm, wrist and hand.
I.V. Safety Cuff is "simply the most intelligent, and caring way to secure and I.V. line-period!"
As you will see for yourself, I.V. Safety Cuff should be on every I.V. cart as a minimum standard of care practice.
Upgrades level of patient care and comfort.

Application Instructions:
A. Position narrow end of I.V. Safety Cuff towards the wrist.
B. Secure tongue-in-grove (allow enough room for the pinky finger to fit betweeen the I.V. Safety Cuff and skin), and/or secure with tape of choice.
C. Slide Cuff as close to the hand as possible to mimic how far the cuff could move before securing an I.V. Line.
Secure the I.V. Line "safety-release-loop" to the I.V. Safety Cuff platform instead of bare skin.
The wider area may be used when the I.V. iis placed in the elbow or forearm region.
D. This alternative view demonstrates that the narrow portion of the I.V. Safety Cuff may be used as a platform also, usually when the I.V. is placed in the dorsum (back-side) of the hand.
Malone and colleagues estimate at least 1.5 million skin tears occur each year in institutionalized elderly care alone. This does not include everone else in hospitals, hospices or clinics; plus the fact that this is a greatly under-reported; the numbers are certainly much, much higher.
Individual facilities have reported skin tear prevalence rates ranging from 14-24%! (These numbers alone lead one to speculate the numbers are far greater than what's reported.)
Skin Tears are obviously very painful - it hurts to have your skin ripped off.
Skin Tears may lead to serious cases of infection like MRSA.
Skin Tears increase caregiver time and facility costs.
Believe it or not, no one has offered a viable functional alternative....until now. And you really have to wonder why?!?
